’Generation Equality’ Comic Cartoon Competition

CALL FOR ENTRIES: ’Generation Equality’ Comic Cartoon Competition, recently opened for entries and as part of the UN Women campaign “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future” this year celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, inviting anyone worldwide to picture their vision of what a gender equal generation looks like.

UN Women, together with the European Commission, Belgium, France, Mexico, as well as in partnership with Cartooning for Peace—is organizing a global comic and cartoon competition to mark the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which set out how to remove the systemic barriers that hold women back from equal participation in all areas of life.

The Competition is part of the UN Women campaign “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future”, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women that took place the first time in Beijing in 1995.

Organiser invite you to picture your vision of what a gender equal generation looks like.

Get familiar with the Beijing Conference and its outcome document, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and seek inspiration for your drawing in the “12 critical areas of concern”. Note! Your comic or cartoon must be without words. Your submission can be composed of one cartoon or a series, maximum six boxes and fitting on a DIN A4 page (210mm x 297mm). The resolution of your drawing must be 150dpi or higher.

This competition is open worldwide to anyone between 18 and 28 years old as of 18 January 2021.

Prize ⇣

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners of the competition will get the chance to attend the virtual opening of the Forum in Paris in early June 2021, and will be among the change makers of this generation. In addition, an exhibition with the cartoons from all finalists will take place during the Generation Equality Forum in Paris.

The prizes will be:

➜ First Prize: EUR 1200
➜ Second Prize: EUR 750
➜ Third Prize: EUR 500

In addition, the winners will have their work featured on several platforms.
